Additional Basic Information: The Gospel in Genesis 3
Immediately after the Fall, God mercifully showed Adam and Eve the way of salvation. We will look briefly at two verses that reveal the gospel.
God tells the serpent, "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."
This verse has been called the "protevangelium," the first expression of the gospel. It indicates that the descendant of Eve will be wounded, but that he will destroy the serpent, who represents Satan. This points to Christ, the seed of the woman, who suffered in our place and was crucified for our sins, but won the victory over sin, Satan, and death.
It shows that Jesus will be born of a virgin and die in our place.
It shows that the descendant of Eve will struggle with Satan and win the victory.
It shows that the descendant of Eve will die and rise again from the dead.
