Abraham

Old Testament patriarch. Luke taught in Acts that Jesus was the heir to the promises made to him.

Anti-Marcionite

Name of an ancient prologue to the third gospel. It says, "Luke, moved by the Holy Spirit, composed the whole of this Gospel...and afterwards the same Luke wrote the Acts of the Apostles."

Apocalyptic

Name given to Jewish groups from the first century who believed that God would intervene supernaturally to destroy their enemies

Clement

Early church writer from Alexandria, 150-215, who stated explicitly that Luke is the author of Acts

David

Old Testament king. Luke taught that Jesus was the final king in his dynasty.

Eusebius

Early church historian who wrote around AD 323 that Luke was the author of Acts

Josephus

Jewish historian from the first century. Wrote Antiquities.

L

Luke

Author of the third gospel and the Book of Acts

M

Moses

Old Testament prophet and deliverer. Luke taught that Jesus was a prophet like him. 

Muratorian

Name of fragment, earliest known document listing the New Testament books that the Church considered canonical
