Instructions for Lesson 1
In the Trinity


Preparation

In preparation for this lesson, write down what you expect to learn in this course.

Read John 14-16. Write down all the ways Jesus described the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Note particularly the relationship between the Holy Spirit and the other two persons of the Trinity.

Before starting the lesson, you should obtain the following resources: a) The lecture for this lesson, either in the form of video, audio file, or manuscript. See the link under "The Multimedia Lessons." b) The "Section Study Guides" for the course. Find them under "General Resources to Download for the Course," also found in the section "General Resources." You should download this document onto your computer, in order to use it for studying the lectures.

Goals and Objectives of Lesson 1

GOALS

In this lesson, we would like to accomplish the following:

1. We hope you will make use of all the resources and activities of the lesson to understand the Holy Spirit has made Himself known in the Bible, learn key vocabulary related to Pneumatology, and understand key issues in the study of the doctrine of the Holy Spirit.

2. We hope you will grow in your desire to know and understand the Holy Spirit better.

3. We hope you make some changes in your life as a response to the teachings of this lesson, especially that you are seeking to know the Holy Spirit better.

OBJECTIVES

When you have done the following, it will show that the goals are met:

1. Obtain satisfactory grades on the automatically graded activities of the lesson, demonstrating that you can identify the following: a) the Bible's depiction of the Holy Spirit as fully God, b) the ways the Holy Spirit exhibits his personhood in scripture, c) the New Testament's teaching on the person and work of the Holy Spirit, especially noting the Trinitarian formulas, d) the development of pneumatology in Church History, e) the difference and important distinctions between the ontology and economy of the Trinity.

2. Complete the questionnaire and answer the application questions in the study guides, showing how you have applied the teachings of the lesson to your own life, especially that you are seeking to know God the Holy Spirit better.

1. Study the first section of the lesson.  

Remember: You can study the lesson by watching the video, listening to the audio, or reading the manuscript.

2. Use Study Guide 1.1 to assimilate the teaching. Use the outline for taking notes, answer the review questions, and answer the application questions.   

3. Take Quiz 1.1.

SECTION 2

1. Study section 2 of the lesson, using Study Guide 1.2. 

2. Take Quiz 1.2.

REVIEW

1. Review all the study guides of the lesson, preparing for the test on the whole lesson. 

2. Take the Cumulative Test.

OTHER REQUIRED ACTIVITIES
