Handsome son of David who had his half-brother Amnon killed for raping his sister Tamar. He later turned against David, attempting to take his place as king. He was killed after being caught in the branches of a tree as he rode on his mule.

This is the name used by modernist critical scholar Martin Noth to refer to the scribe or group of scribes that, according to his theory, supposedly composed Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Samuel and Kings during the Babylonian exile to show that the exile of Israel and Judah was a judgment they deserved.
