Instructions for Lesson 8

In this lesson, we suggest an approach to apologetics that will help in any situation. Then we analyze examples of how to use that approach with six of the hardest questions people ask us.

Assignments

1. Watch Videos J and K: "Contradictions in the Bible? ", Frank Turek (3 mins), and "Is the Bible inerrant or infallible?", Robert Plummer (10 mins). Consider the questions below as you watch the videos. Take notes for writing your reflections.

a. What are the points made by Frank Turek and Robert Plummer that were especially helpful for you?

b. Are there any issues you think they could have dealt with better? Why?

c. How would you compare the approaches of these two theologians?

d. What can we learn from their apologetic methods for our own ministry?

2. Read chapters 7-9 of The Certainty of the Faith and answer the review questions and reflection questions in the study guide.

3. Take Quiz 15 on chapters 7-9.

4. Watch Video L: "Why Would God Ordain Evil?," John Piper (20 mins). Consider the questions below as you watch the video. 

a. What are the points made by John Piper that were especially helpful for you?

b. Are there any issues you think he could have dealt with better? Why?

c. What can we learn from John Piper's apologetic method?

5. Read chapters 10 and 11 of The Certainty of the Faith and answer the review questions and reflection questions in the study guide.

6. Take Quiz 16 on chapters 10 and 11.

7. Review all the chapters of The Certainty of the Faith and take Exam #2, Apologetics.

8. Participate in meeting #4 with your mentor.

9. Complete the feedback survey and answer the confirmation question to receive additional credit.

Optional:

10. Written Project #2: Complete step 4. Finish the project. It should be 6 pages long.
