GENERAL REVELATION

There are two basic categories of revelation: "general" and "special."

General revelation is for all mankind, and it comes through God's works and His creation, such as:

1) Nature

2) Man

3) History

General Revelation

1) Nature displays God's glory.

Romans 1:20

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

2) Man himself is the image of God, and thus reveals many attributes of God, such as His moral aspect, His reasoning, His emotions, His creativity, and His dominion over creation.

Furthermore, when man learns, when he organizes society, and when he develops technology, his accomplishments reveal something about God, such as His sovereign dominion and His creativity.

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

3) All of history reveals God's nature.

Obviously, the history of God's people recorded in Scripture reveals the plan of redemption, but all of history, even outside the Bible, reveals something of God.

For example, sin and injustice normally lead to conflict and chaos, while goodness and justice normally produce harmony and well being. This reflects the moral nature of God.

The dynamics of international politics, while we may not always be certain how we should interpret them, are part of God's plan to send the gospel to all nations and redeem His people.

1 Timothy 2:1-4

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
