Explanation of common grace
What is "common grace"?
Theologians make a distinction between "common grace" or "universal grace" and "saving grace." Common grace is given to all kinds of people, not just to Christians. It is not meant to lead someone to salvation, like saving grace, but rather to bring other kinds of benefits to all of society.
Matthew 5:45 says,
For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
James 1:17 says,
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
