Joshua

Judah

The most prominent tribe in Israel, destined to be the royal tribe

Manasseh

Son of Joseph. He and his brother Ephraim received tribal allotments in the place of Levi (who received no land) and Joseph. Half of his tribe received land west of the Jordan, and the other half received land east of the Jordan.

Pentateuch

The first five books of the Bible


Phinehas

He led the delegation from the Cisjordan tribes to resolve the potential conflict with the tribes in Transjordan regarding the altar they had built. When he heard their explanation of why they built the altar, he called for peace. He was a son of Eleazar the priest.


Primary History

Phrase used by Bible scholars to refer to the history that stretches from Genesis through Kings

Rahab

Prostitute from Jericho who protected the spies from Israel, was saved when Israel attacked, and became part of the Jewish people.

Talmud

An important Jewish text that is basically a record of rabbinical teachings on the Hebrew Scriptures, especially the law, spanning roughly the first six centuries after the time of Christ.


Transjordan

The land east of the Jordan that belonged to Israel
