THE BOOK OF SAMUEL
INSTRUCTIONS FOR LESSON 1: AN INTRODUCTION TO SAMUEL


Preparation

Before starting the lesson, you should download the "Section Study Guides" for the course. Find them under "General Resources to Download for the Course," found in the section "General Resources" at the beginning of the course. You should use this document for studying the lectures.


The lesson is divided into the following sections:

1) Background
2) Design
3) Christian Application


Goals and Objectives

GOALS

In this lesson, we would like to accomplish the following:

1. We hope that you will learn the basic information about the background, design, and Christian application of the Book of Samuel.

2. We hope you will become excited about studying the Book of Samuel and convinced of its importance.

3. We hope you make some changes in your life as a response to the teachings of this lesson, especially growing in your ability to maintain hope and trust in God during difficult circumstances.

OBJECTIVES

When you have done the following, it will show that the goals are met:

1. Obtain satisfactory grades on the tests, demonstrating that you can identify major information about the background, author, date, circumstances, structure and content, overarching purpose,  and Christian application of the Book of Samuel.

2. Answer the application questions in the study guides and complete the questionnaire, expressing how the Book of Samuel has affected your life, especially learning to trust God and maintain hope in difficult circumstances.


ASSIGNMENTS

THE MULTIMEDIA LESSONS

SECTION 1 (Video segments 1-4)

1. Study the first section of the lesson.  

Remember: You can study the lesson by watching the video, listening to the audio, or reading the manuscript.

2. Use Study Guide 1.1 to assimilate the teaching. Use the outline for taking notes, answer the review questions, and answer the application questions.   

A drop box to upload the final document with the answers to all study guides is provided in the last section of the course for students whose institutions will be tracking their completion.

3. Take Quiz 1.1.

SECTION 2 (Video segments 5-10)

1. Study section 2 of the lesson, using Study Guide 1.2. 

2. Take Quiz 1.2.

SECTION 3 (Video segments 12-14)

1. Study section 3 of the lesson, using Study Guide 1.3.

2. Take Quiz 1.3. 

REVIEW

1. Review all the study guides of the lesson, preparing for the test on the whole lesson. 

2. You may want to review the glossary for the lesson and use the learning game to practice identifying the special names and technical terms used in the lesson.

3. Take the Cumulative Test on the lesson.


OTHER ACTIVITIES

1. Complete the Supplementary Lesson.

2. Complete the questionnaire.

3. Do the required reading assignment #1 and take the quiz.


OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES

1. Written Project

If you are doing the optional written project, read "Instructions, Optional Written Project" shown in the "Optional Activities" section of this lesson. For this lesson, do the percentage of work on this assignment that corresponds to the number of lessons in the course.
