THE EPISTLE OF JAMES
INSTRUCTIONS FOR LESSON 1: INTRODUCTION TO JAMES


Preparation

Before starting the lesson, you should read over the epistle of James in your Bible.

You should download the document with the study guides for the lessons, found in the folder of "Resources to Download for the Course." You should open this document on your computer, and use the study guides for studying the presentation, typing in your answers. 

If you are not working on a desktop computer or laptop computer, you should find a way to print out the study guides and write the answers by hand with a pen or pencil as you study the presentation.

The lesson is available in video, audio, or text. See the link under "The Multimedia Lessons."

The lesson is divided into the following sections:

Goals and Objectives

GOALS

In this lesson, we would like to accomplish the following:

1. We hope that you will learn the basic facts regarding the background issues surrounding the Epistle of James and come to identify the major teachings of this letter, as expressed in the Structure & Content portion of the lesson.

2. We hope you will become excited about studying the Epistle of James and committed to living a life that expresses your faith in a wise life style.

3. We hope you make some changes in your life as a response to the teachings of this lesson, especially applying the focus James gives to wise living.

OBJECTIVES

When you have done the following, it will show that the goals are met:

1. Obtain satisfactory grades on the quizzes and test, demonstrating that you can identify major information about the background, structure, and content of the Epistle of James, and that you understand the basic meaning of its key teachings.

2. Answer the application questions in the study guides and complete the online questionnaire, in which you show how your understanding of the relationship between faith and works affects your life.

SECTION 1

1. Study the first section of the lesson.  

Remember: You can study the lesson by watching the video, listening to the audio, or reading the manuscript.

2. Use Study Guide 1.1 to assimilate the teaching. Use the outline for taking notes, answer the review questions, and answer the application questions.   

3. Take Quiz 1.1.

SECTION 2

1. Study section 2 of the lesson, using Study Guide 1.2. 

2. Take Quiz 1.2.

REVIEW

1. Review all the study guides of the lesson, preparing for the test on the whole lesson. 

2. Take the Cumulative Test.

OTHER REQUIRED ACTIVITIES

1. Complete the Supplementary Lesson.

2. Complete the Questionnaire.

3. Begin working on the required reading assignments.

1. Written Project
